free motion embroidery, basketry, glass art

by

Carly Leech, Jeanette Carter,  Jenie Yolland

11 July to 18 August  2026

“Gardens are an endless collection of wonders.  Curated by their owners, they are nevertheless responsive to their environment, offering surprises of self sown beauty, insects, butterflies, and reflective of local weather.

A garden is begun, it is never finished. Our exhibition celebrates everything that makes gardens such a vital and central part of our lives. ”

These three artists use their different, but complementary media to demonstrate their connection to gardens.

About the artists

Jeanette Carter has been exhibiting at Bulleen Art and Garden for many years. She works mainly with natural fibres that she finds in her garden and from fibres given to her from friends at Basketmakers of Victoria. For this exhibition she has created insects from the pods of the Banksia, Eucalyptus and Catalpa trees. For the birds and bird nests Jeanette used Pea Flower vine and
Chasmanthe. Some of the wall hangings use bamboo for the poles. She has been a member of the Basketmakers of Victoria for 39 years and enjoys weaving. Jeanette also illustrates Children’s books and has included her books about dogs in the exhibition.

Carly Leech is a textile artist of over 30 years experience, using thread from her sewing machine to draw plants and animals on to silk, cotton or yarn which has been dyed or fabric painted. The joy Carly gets from making is substantial and she hopes to spread her joy to collectors of her work. Carly’s principal practice covers 3D garden bowls, embroideries of gardens and animals, Empowered Woman, bookmarks, and jewellery. Carly is inspired by textures in nature: on tree trunks, in rockpools, the way water moves and how plants grow. Carly loves to see where animals live, how they move and what they eat and then recreate it in textiles.

Well-known local glass artist Jenie Yolland creates beautiful vibrant works in both alcohol ink and warm glass and also teaches students in her Richmond Studio. Her works are inspired by the colours of nature: the natural world is one of infinite complexity which she finds endlessly provocative and utterly mesmerising. The freedom of creativity allows her to represent the world in
new and exciting ways. She wants to reflect and extend nature, bringing its wonders inside to touch, to reveal, and to inspire those who invest in her work.
She feels truly blessed to create in various mediums.

These three artists have had a number of exhibitions at Bulleen Art & Garden – involved in previous exhibitions in the Bolin Bolin Gallery – Trois Artisans in 2023, Flourish in 2021Trio Creative in 2019, Renewal in 2018 and Triple stitch in 2016
