SUMMARY:Winged Whispers: Spirits of Australia
DESCRIPTION:Fibre\,   Acrylics\, Pastel\, Watercolour and mixed media \nDenise Smith & Kate Taylor  \n23rd May to 7th July  2026\nThis Collection captures the vivid beauty and character of Australian native birds and other winged creatures\, each piece a tribute to their distinct presence in the landscapes. Through a combination of acrylics\, pastels\, watercolour and fibre\, the works explore texture\, movement and colour to reflect the diversity and spirit of these iconic creatures. \nMeet The Artists\nDenise & Kate will be at the gallery on the following days\, creating their artworks and chatting to visitors \n23rd May Saturday – 12 – 2pm \n31st May Sunday – 12 – 2pm \n \nAbout Kate \nKate’s journey as an artist has been shaped by life itself. A naturally creative soul\, she first channeled her talents into a wool shop she owned in Healesville during the vibrant 1980s\, a time when bold\, colourful jumpers were all the rage. It was there that her passion for design blossomed\, and many of her original creations found happy homes. \nOver the years\, Kate explored various creative avenues before discovering her true artistic niche in the world of fibre art—especially needle felting and felting in all its forms. Her work\, often inspired by photographs used with the kind permission of talented photographers\, celebrates the beauty of Australian birds and wildlife. Each piece is crafted entirely freehand\, with remarkable attention to detail\, translated by eye onto a felted canvas. \nKate has also embraced 3D fibre sculpture as an extension of her artistry. Using only wool fibre and a barbed needle\, she creates soft\, lifelike sculptures—a meditative practice that connects her deeply with the materials and subjects she portrays. \nNestled on the outskirts of Healesville\, Kate’s studio is a cozy corner of her home\, where daily visits from native parrots and the occasional circling eagle provide inspiration and delight. \nIn addition to her one-of-a-kind fibre sculptures and felt paintings\, Kate enjoys working with watercolour and pastel. She is also a passionate teacher\, sharing the art of needle felting with students of all ages. Whether it’s a pet portrait\, a custom commission\, or a group workshop\, Kate brings warmth\, skill\, and joy to everything she creates. \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \nABOUT DENISE \nInspired by the beauty of nature and driven by a deep concern for wildlife conservation\, Denise creates art that speaks to the heart and the environment.  Her work spans acrylics\, inks\, pastels\, watercolours\, and mixed media – each piece a celebration of the animals and habitats she seeks to honour and protect. Having volunteered as a visitor guide at Healesville Sanctuary for 10 years also held her in awe of the beauty of our native birds. Being able to see them at close range has certainly enhanced her inspirational creations. \nWorking from her light-filled\, purpose-built studio in the Yarra Valley Denise is surrounded by native birds and bushland that provides daily inspiration.  Her creative journey has been shaped by decades of practice\, experimentation\, and a humble belief that “one never stops learning”. \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \nMore of Denise’s work\nTEDDY BEAR BEE \nThe Teddy Bear Bee is a solitary Australian native bee.   They are about 7 – 15mm long and belong to the family Apidae.  Found Australia wide except in Tasmania. The female builds an individual nest in a small burrow in the soil. However\, quite a few Teddy Bear Bees may build nests close together in a sheltered location such as in an eroded creek bank or underneath a house! \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nTHE BLUE DAMSELFLY  – is a small slender Australian native insect (approx.. 32 – 36mm) often found near water. Males are characterized by vivid sky-blue and black banding with a mushroom-shaped mark on their second abdominal segment. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nSWIFT PARROT \nBeautifully coloured Australian native bird.  Critically endangered from mainly loss of habitat.  Migrates from Tasmania to Great Dividing Range in Victoria/NSW.  Likelihood of extinction within the next 20yrs.l  Zoo’s Victoria is considering a captive breeding program. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n\nMore of Kate’s work\n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:"Hidden In the Garden"\,
DESCRIPTION:Hidden In the Garden’ \nfree motion embroidery\, basketry\, glass art \nby \nCarly Leech\, Jeanette Carter\,  Jenie Yolland   \n11 July to 18 August  2026      \n“Gardens are an endless collection of wonders.  Curated by their owners\, they are nevertheless responsive to their environment\, offering surprises of self sown beauty\, insects\, butterflies\, and reflective of local weather. \nA garden is begun\, it is never finished. Our exhibition celebrates everything that makes gardens such a vital and central part of our lives. ” \nThese three artists use their different\, but complementary media to demonstrate their connection to gardens. \nW E  D O  H O P E  Y O U  E N J O Y  O U R  E X H I B I T I O N ! \nAbout the artists\nJeanette Carter has been exhibiting at Bulleen Art and Garden for many years. She works mainly with natural fibres that she finds in her garden and from fibres given to her from friends at Basketmakers of Victoria. For this exhibition she has created insects from the pods of the Banksia\, Eucalyptus and Catalpa trees. For the birds and bird nests Jeanette used Pea Flower vine and\nChasmanthe. Some of the wall hangings use bamboo for the poles. She has been a member of the Basketmakers of Victoria for 39 years and enjoys weaving. Jeanette also illustrates Children’s books and has included her books about dogs in the exhibition. \nCarly Leech is a textile artist of over 30 years experience\, using thread from her sewing machine to draw plants and animals on to silk\, cotton or yarn which has been dyed or fabric painted. The joy Carly gets from making is substantial and she hopes to spread her joy to collectors of her work. Carly’s principal practice covers 3D garden bowls\, embroideries of gardens and animals\, Empowered Woman\, bookmarks\, and jewellery. Carly is inspired by textures in nature: on tree trunks\, in rockpools\, the way water moves and how plants grow. Carly loves to see where animals live\, how they move and what they eat and then recreate it in textiles. \nWell-known local glass artist Jenie Yolland creates beautiful vibrant works in both alcohol ink and warm glass and also teaches students in her Richmond Studio. Her works are inspired by the colours of nature: the natural world is one of infinite complexity which she finds endlessly provocative and utterly mesmerising. The freedom of creativity allows her to represent the world in\nnew and exciting ways. She wants to reflect and extend nature\, bringing its wonders inside to touch\, to reveal\, and to inspire those who invest in her work.\nShe feels truly blessed to create in various mediums. \nThese three artists have had a number of exhibitions at Bulleen Art & Garden – involved in previous exhibitions in the Bolin Bolin Gallery – Trois Artisans in 2023\, Flourish in 2021\,  Trio Creative in 2019\, Renewal in 2018 and Triple stitch in 2016
