This is an exhibition to demonstrate the influence a visit to Japan has had on the artwork of two groups of travellers.  Linda De Toma, founder of Claydreamers studio,  is a ceramic artist with a passion for Japan and Japanese ceramics. Naoko Coghlan is a potter who grew up in Japan but now has her home in Melbourne. They got together in 2014 to plan a tour designed to introduce small groups  to Japanese sights and culture, as well as pottery and other arts and crafts.

They have taken two groups so far who  experienced Japan through visiting pottery studios and museums, traditional tea ceremonies, viewing hill climbing kilns, woodblock printing, washi-paper workshops, pottery festivals as well as many temples, magnificent gardens, including a moss garden and bamboo grove, and much feasting on good food. You can out more about the tours in a “blog” by Meredith Plain at http://meredithplain.baag.com.au/?p=669 and also at where you can make enquiries about booking http://kikupotterystudio.com/japanese-pottery-tours/

This exhibition is a result of inspiration  found on these tours. It will include work by Linda and Naoko and the other travellers, who include experienced potters such as Glenn England and Lee Goller, ceramic sculptors and textile artists. One feature will be a collection of tea bowls, as used in tea ceremonies while in Japan and made by our travellers when they returned home. There will be quilts by Penny Plain, pottery by Linda, Naoko, Glenn England, Rhoda Karpin, Robert Wruck , Jenny McDonald, collographs and cushions by Deborah Elliott, ceramic sculpture by Meredith Plain, collages and paper art by Lee Goller, dolls, bags and bootees by Rene Robinson, and more

Below are some images of some of work which will be a part of the exhibition – more to follow
